Château de Rouffiac in the Spotlight with Praise from Andrew Jefford

Our Château de Rouffiac Cahors Tradition 2022 was recently tasted by the esteemed wine critic Andrew Jefford, renowned for his insightful and poetic writing in The World of Fine Wine.

A remarkable result: 92/100, accompanied by a review that truly warmed the hearts of our entire team:

Saturated dense black-red. Touch reduced – give it time. Boisterous, piratical nose. Dense, weight, classical taste of coal – is this the siderolithique? Some substantial tannins here, meshing with that coal-dark fruit; very sloe-into-winter (and not prune); some noble bitters to end. I love the authenticity of flavour and with a slightly more refined nose the score would lift further. Very good for a Tradition.

This recognition reinforces what we strive for, vintage after vintage: crafting an authentic wine, true to its distinctive siderolithic soil, and to our commitment to expressing the purest character of our signature grape, Malbec.

In his article published in The World of Fine Wine, Andrew Jefford also reflects on the forgotten richness of the Cahors vineyard, its extraordinary potential, its limestone and terraced soils, and the resilience of its winemakers. He evokes a region that, in his words, deserves “a wave of the magic wand,” as its natural assets truly deserve greater recognition on the international stage.

This spotlight is deeply meaningful to us and encourages us to continue our pursuit of wines that are deep, vibrant, and sincere.

The 2022 vintage of Château de Rouffiac Cahors Tradition is available at the estate and online.
